FAQs
Who can audition for the group?
The Edgewater Singers are open to anyone who enjoys singing! Our director will use your audition time to get to know you – your vocal range, sound, reading abilities, and singing experience. While many members of the group have past choral or musical experience this is not a pre-requisite for joining the group. Members’ day jobs include social workers, web designers, scientists, nurses, bankers, and teachers.
Where does the singing happen?
The Edgewater Singers rehearse on Monday evenings from September to May, 7-9pm at Ebenezer Church, 1650 W Foster Ave, Chicago. We present two concerts per season, one in December and one in April (with an approximately 6 week hiatus between mid-December and early February) . The group also often participates in other performances in the Edgewater neighborhood.
What type of music does the group perform?
The music ranges in difficulty, style, and time periods. Our most recent concert seasons featured original works by local composers, music by the Beatles, Beethoven, and modern composers. The group performs a capella and accompanied works with occasional guest musicians featured on flute or harp. Most of the choral music is expected to memorized by singers by the end of the rehearsal period.
Are there dues or fees for joining the group?
Member fees are $75 per concert (though scholarships may be available on a case by case basis). Fees go to paying for music, staff, and guest musicians.
