Picture Emily Barrett, Chicagoland pianist & accompanist, hails from southeast Iowa and embraces her small-town upbringing through charisma and an open mind. Emily began piano lessons at the age of 7 and through the years has studied various genres of music, including classical, jazz, popular, and contemporary. Her love for music reaches beyond the piano, as she is also vocally trained and proficient in the woodwind family. She brings a new fire to her music as a skilled accompanist, always aiming to assist other artists to complete a strong team.
Emily performs as a solo artist as well as with ensembles; her true passion lies within dance accompaniment and musical theatre music direction. Recent highlights include music directing Hairspray at Columbia College Chicago (2013) and The Wizard of Oz with the Chicago Women Charity Players (2012). She is currently a staff accompanist at Hyde Park School of Dance and Chicago High School for the Arts, both of Chicago.
Ms. Barrett holds a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Instrumental Performance, concentration piano, from Columbia College Chicago. International training includes studying with Martin Vojt?ek in Prague, Czech Republic through New York University and completing the Musician's Mentorship Program at Canada's National Ballet School of Toronto, Ontario. In January 2014, Ms. Barrett will also complete the Music Direction Intensive at Goodspeed Musicals (East Haddam, CT). Looking forward to the future, Emily is available for freelance work and collaboration.
